Gary Rowett is the current favourite to become the next Burton manager following the departure of Martin Paterson.
Paterson left Burton last week after the club narrowly avoided relegation from League One. He oversaw just five wins from 20 games after taking the role in January of 2024, with Burton ending up finishing 20th - one place and two points above the drop zone.
The new manager will have a lot of work to do if Burton are to push themselves up the table and into contention for promotion back to the Championship for the first time since 2017.

Next Burton Manager: The Contenders
Gary Rowett
Gary Rowett spent time at Burton as a player between 2005-2007 before moving into management with the club in 2012.
Rowett took the club to the top end of League Two in late 2014 before taking a job with then-Championship side Birmingham City in October of that year. He went on to have brief spells at Stoke and Derby before a four-year stint at Millwall between 2019-2023, whom he left by mutual consent. Rowett is currently a free agent after a brief spell as Birmingham’s interim manager earlier this year.
Pete Wild
Pete Wild is also without a side after leaving Barrow on May 24. He spent two years at the club and finished 8th in League Two with them this past season. Before Barrow, Wild spent time in the dugouts of Halifax and Oldham Athletic.
Martin Paterson
In a somewhat strange twist, Martin Paterson is currently the third favourite to be the next Burton manager with odds of 6/1. Paterson joined Burton in January of 2024 and struggled at the club, guiding them to a disappointing 20th-place finish after taking over when they were sat 17th.
Paterson departed the club last week but it appears a swift return could be on the cards for the 37-year-old, according to the bookies.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Third time is the charm? Jimmy Floyd Haselbaink has already had two spells in charge of Burton, the first coming between 2014-2015 when the former Middlesbrough striker was able to guide them to promotion from League Two. He returned to the club in 2021 but was let go 18 months later after being unable to repeat his previous success.
Hasselbaink is currently working as a technical coach with England after being invited to link up with the national team by his former Boro teammate, Gareth Southgate, in 2023.
