Nottingham Forest v Liverpool Match Preview
Nottingham Forest and Liverpool will collide in what is being billed as a title showdown on Tuesday evening at the City Ground.
While few would have expected Forest before the start of the season to be in the throes of a title race, they have defied many expectations.
Currently third and level on points with Arsenal, Nuno Santo’s charges have torn up the traditional script, and they warmed up for the midweek Premier League clash with a 2-0 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup Third Round.
Liverpool, meanwhile, brushed off their 1-0 defeat against Tottenham in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final tie by coasting to a 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley last weekend.
There was a positive for Forest at the weekend as Danilo came off the bench against the Hatters after recovering from a serious ankle injury.
The Reds will be without Darwin Nunez, who is serving a one-match suspension for five yellow cards, while Dominik Szoboszlai was pulled off at half-time against Accrington Stanley in what was a pre-planned move by Arne Slot.
I can’t wait for this Premier League encounter and to underline my Nottingham Forest v Liverpool predictions, I have sprinkled some odds from the betting markets.
Liverpool to settle for a point
To date, the only defeat Liverpool have suffered in the Premier League this term came at the hands of Forest at Anfield.
While there might have been some that have suggested that the 2-2 draw against Manchester United earlier this month was a setback for the Merseyside outfit, they are six points clear at the top of the table along with a game in hand.
The Reds have so far proved to be strong frontrunners this term, and their away form is impressive. They are undefeated in nine games on the road (W7 D2) and only in three other campaigns have they had longer unbeaten starts on their travels — 1987/88, 2018/19, and 2019/20.
Forest, let’s not forget, have been formidable at home, winning five of their past six league games at the City Ground, which is more than they had done so in their past 21 on home soil (W4, D7, L10).
Santo’s men are aiming to complete a league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 1962/63 season, and it could be a tight affair.
I think Liverpool will gladly take a point and a draw is currently available at 3/1 with Betano.
Trent Alexander-Arnold to come to the rescue
Transfer speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold has been unrelenting at times over the past few weeks. The right-back who is out of contract for Liverpool in the summer has been talked up with a move to Real Madrid.
What was more baffling was the way he was harangued by the Reds faithful after his dismal display against United even though he has generally been superb whenever he has pulled on the shirt.
Alexander-Arnold, however, shrugged things off by scoring a screamer from outside the box against Accrington Stanley, and his class is undisputed.
Although Mohamed Salah is often a more obvious choice to score against Forest anytime given the 18 he has contributed in the league this term, I’ve overlooked him and sided with Alexander-Arnold.
To round off my Nottingham Forest Liverpool predictions, I’ve gone with Alexander-Arnold to salvage a point for the Reds and net the final goal of the game. A juicy price of 18/1 is available for that outcome at Betfred.
