Gian van Veen to beat Ricardo Pietreczko 3-1
Van Veen is one to watch at this year’s World Championship, and the reigning Youth world champion will be brimming with confidence arriving at the Palace as the 28th seed.
The young Dutchman got dumped out in the first round by Man Lok Leung last year but has shown across the season that he is a major champion on waiting…
Pietreczko has made a few splashes this season, including some positive runs on the European Tour, but is still lacking that consistency to be relied on against the best operators.
We’re backing the Dutchman over the German here, with 3-1 looking sensible.
Florian Hempel to beat Daryl Gurney
Florian Hempel has got his feet wet already at this year’s tournament, averaging an impressive 93 in knocking out Jeffrey de Zwaan in round one.
Daryl Gurney comes here as the 26th seed, but after a couple of tricky seasons on the PDC Tour will definitely be considered an outsider to repeat his quarter-final runs of 2017 and 2021.
The Northern Irishman has struggled in the ranked TV tournaments this year and if Hempel can start fast then Gurney could easily be caught cold.
Gurney edged their last meeting in September 6-5, but Hempel is the pick at 5/4 this time around.
Dave Chisnall vs Ricky Evans – 6+ 180s in the 1st Set
We’re banking on a fast start to this encounter, much like Ryan Searle vs Matt Campbell yesterday afternoon.
If there are two players playing that will suit each others style as well as egging each other on to hit the T20, then it’s Chisnall vs Evans.
A deluge of 180s in the opening set (which could quite easily go five legs) is the outside pick for today at a meaty 25/1 with Paddy Power, and will be just the tonic to set up an unmissable match-up.
