Arne Slot’s Liverpool reign officially gets under way against Real Betis on Friday night, with plenty of eyes on how the Reds will cope with the departure of a manager as influential as Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool lost 1-0 against Preston earlier in the week but start their proper pre-season against Betis in Pittsburgh without most of their recognisable stars, before an all-Premier League clash sees Manchester United and Arsenal come head-to-head later in the day, into Sunday morning.

Liverpool v Real Betis Match Preview
With Klopp out of the door, there is going to be a lot of pressure and expectation on Slot this season and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see it being a tricky start to the season for Liverpool.
Fans were a little deflated when he was revealed as Klopp’s successor after being linked with high-profile names such as Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann, but it is Slot who was given the reigns and who will take charge of a weakened Reds squad this summer.
Plenty of players will be missing after playing at Euro 2024 or Copa America, so it will be a patched-up squad with plenty of youngsters out in America.
They will be boosted by the presence of Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai however, and of course have plenty of attacking talent to threaten Betis. The Spanish side on the other hand have a few players of their own missing, but having already started their pre-season in impressive fashion - a 5-1 win over Austria Salzburg - I think they will cause problems.
Predicting pre-season games at this stage is always tough, but I’m expecting a fairly open game but Liverpool’s attacking talent to prove too much - though not by much.
Arsenal v Manchester United Match Preview
Arsenal should be able to put out a pretty strong side for this game, and you can be assured that Mikel Arteta won’t be taking any games lightly even at this stage of the season.
Having gone so close in the previous two seasons, he will know his side have to deliver soon and this game could be a good time to make an early statement of intent.
Manchester United on the other hand got started with a win over Rangers with a weakened side, and will be missing a lot of players again, with the majority expected to return later in the week. It will be a big chance for players such as Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Harry Maguire to stake claims for the season, while there will be plenty of eyes on Lenny Yoro after his big-money move.
While these games are usually played at a fairly low tempo with neither side wanting to go hell for leather, so I’m expecting a low-scorer. Probably a goal either way will do it.
