Wolves v Crystal Palace Match Preview
It may have only been a draw that was earned at The Amex last weekend but with the manner that Wolves managed to earn a share of the points, their dramatic comeback was celebrated with the same exuberance as an away win.
Two goals down with five minutes of regulation time remaining, two goals scored by the fifth minute of injury time that had passed and thanks to the grit and determination that was shown by Gary O’Neil’s men, it is they who have earned him an additional week in the Molineux manager’s office.
An additional week that concludes this Saturday evening with no guarantee of a further seven days to follow and with O’Neil yet to oversee a first league win of this new season, the opportunities in which to earn one are starting to run out.
Especially as Wolves start this Premier League weekend lying second bottom in the table and with the gap between 19th and 17th already at four points, not even a home win on Saturday would take the West Midlands outfit out of the relegation zone.
Coincidentally, it is the team who start the weekend in 17th that make the trip to Molineux on Saturday and although there is no doubt that the visit of Crystal Palace has been framed as a high-stakes encounter, the stakes are now slightly lower for Oliver Glasner’s men.
If only because they managed to earn their first league win of the season at Selhurst Park on Sunday. A 1-0 win over a Tottenham side that blows hot and cold in equal measure and thankfully for the Eagles, Spurs’ temperature was more of the latter.
Then again, that should not dismiss the ability that Palace showed in South London just a few days ago and with Eberechi Eze playing like a player with a point to prove, his performance would play a significant part in winning all three.
His assist for Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half strike would remind Tottenham supporters of what they reportedly missed out on during the summer’s transfer window and if Palace’s crosstown rivals are to come back with a January bid, any perceived value would have now increased.
Now though, Eze has to play a part in making sure that Palace’s win was not a simple flash in the pan and if they can put even further distance between themselves and the bottom three, then their season can finally get underway.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with so much on the line, this has to be the time for Gary O’Neil to go beyond it. Wolves’ goal threat has been nullified by such bad defending but with that said, I think they finally turn the corner with a home win and over 2.5 goals at 29/10 with William Hill.
In addition to this, I think we are going to see the best and worst of Wolves at both ends and because of this, I think we are going to see a highly entertaining clash between two struggling sides. Entertainment that comes in the shape of a 3-2 home win at a very tasty price of 28/1 with bet365.
