Euro 2024 Group A Tip
We’re backing Scotland to continue their fine recent form into the European Championships and top the group. It won’t be an easy task with three other tough sides to get past if they want to do so, but group favourites Germany have been way below their best in recent years despite possessing some fine players.
Scotland showed in qualifying that they can beat anyone on their day and will certainly be tough to beat, while their lack of world class players is reflected in longer odds than any of their opponents.

Euro 2024 Group A Team Profiles
Germany
It has been tricky progress for Germany in recent years, with group stage exits at the last two World Cups and a dismal defeat to England in the round of 16 at the last Euros.
It’s not just in the big tournaments either, having lost six out of 11 matches in 2023 and moving on from Hansi Flick to Julian Nagelsmann, who himself is already under pressure amid doubts he will be in the dugout after the summer.
Germany have potentially world class players such as Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan and Jamal Musiala, but form has been so patchy of late it is hard to see them mounting a serious challenge in the latter stages of the tournament - though home support may push them on to overachieve.
Scotland
It has been some ride for Scotland under Steve Clarke, making it back-to-back European Championship qualifications after 22 years without a major tournament.
Things didn’t quite go to plan last time as they drew with England at Wembley but subsided meekly in their other two games, but they have very real ambitions of causing a few upsets this time round after an impressive qualifying campaign that saw them beat Spain and qualify ahead of Norway from their group.
While they might not have the mega stars of some of the other teams around, Clarke’s side are very much greater than the sum of their parts but will lean heavily on the likes of Andrew Robertson, Scott McTominay and John McGinn if they are going to pull off something in Germany.
Switzerland
Very much one of the underrated European sides, Switzerland will be heading to Germany under the radar with very few people talking about their chances.
They reached the quarter-finals three years ago and have advanced from the group stages in each of the last three World Cups before falling at the first hurdle, so they will have pretty high hopes of advancing once more with a very experienced squad likely to be selected.
The likes of Granit Xhaka, Yann Sommer, Manuel Akanji and Ricardo Rodriguez have been around the block for quite some time - but do they have the goals to get through the group?
Hungary
Hungary are likely to go into Euro 2024 as the underdogs of Group A, but they will be quietly confident after the success of their qualifying campaign.
They finished top of Group G with an unbeaten record, but had the luck of being drawn in one of the weaker groups, with Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria the other four sides in the group.
They will be many people’s favourites to finish last in the group and with arguably their most-winnable game coming last - against Scotland - they will need some points earlier on and will hope for some magic from talisman midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
