Phoenix Open 3-Ball Betting Tips

The WM Phoenix Open in Arizona takes centre stage on the PGA Tour on Thursday and it is always eagerly anticipated.
But it’s not the only major sporting event taking place that will capture the imagination; the Super Bowl on Sunday will provide the evening entertainment.
In 2025, there has been a different winner each week. Rory McIlroy was the latest player to etch his name into the annals after triumphing at the AT&T Pebble Beach to collect his 27th PGA Tour career tour title.
A total prize purse of £9 million is available and there are 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs in this prestigious event.
One of the oldest tournaments on the PGA Tour circuit, the WM Phoenix Open is a raucous affair, and the famous 16th hole, a par-three, can spark wild celebrations in the grandstand.
Earlier this week, I offered insights into the golf betting tips outrights markets. This time, I’ve handpicked some 3-ball betting tips with the first round looming so let’s get stuck in, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
Phoenix Open 3-Ball Betting Tips - Round One
Nick Taylor to beat Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth
An intriguing 3-ball to kick things off, Nick Taylor has had a memorable season so far. Crowned Sony Open champion last month in Hawaii, Taylor will be defending his WM Phoenix Open title.
The Canadian shot an impressive total of -21 in 2024, the lowest score since Phil Mickelson surged to the title in 2013 (-28).
Taylor’s putting, however, is a cause for concern as he is 74th for SG: Putting, and he will have another former WM Phoenix Open champion to contend with in Hideki Matsuyama, a two-time winner.
Jordan Spieth has been well and truly cast adrift this term, scraping through to the weekend of tournaments and not making a major dent on the leaderboard.
Taylor has caught my eye this season, and he’s my pick in this 3-ball group.
Sam Burns to beat Sepp Straka & Sungjae Im
Sepp Straka has been firing on all cylinders this term, with a flurry of top-15 finishes, and that included landing The American Express.
The Austrian can combine finesse with power and he could well be in the mix come the weekend.
Sungjae Im was on the fringes of things at Pebble Beach, but two top-five finishes otherwise speaks volumes about what he can bring to the table.
However, with a partisan crowd backing him, Sam Burns is moving in the right trajectory, and he could be too hot to handle in Round 1.
For the second of my 3-ball betting tips, Burns could leave Straka and Im in the shade.
Scottie Scheffler to beat Tom Kim & Max Homa
Another enterprising 3-ball awaits and Scottie Scheffler naturally is the main attraction here.
He made a decent comeback after his injury lay-off, coming in T9 at the Pebble Beach.
Tom Kim and Max Homa won’t roll out the red carpet for the World No.1 and there could be plenty of birdies in this round.
However, Scheffler is a two-time champion, and he will be targeting a hat-trick of wins. His credentials are undoubted and after backing him in the outrights, I’m leaning into him to win this 3-ball group.
