Arsenal v Liverpool Match Preview
Arsenal and Liverpool will resume Premier League duties in what promises to be an enthralling encounter at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners brushed aside their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend by seeing off Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League 1-0.
Liverpool also won by the same scoreline on their continental travels away to RB Leipzig, and they are ticking off the games in the midst of a tough fixture list.
A 2-1 win at home to Chelsea last weekend has fuelled talk Liverpool are the real deal in the title race, and Arsenal are one of the three horses.
Over the years, Arsenal and Liverpool have entertained fans and neutrals with some spellbinding football, and there could be a moment of magic sprinkled this weekend.
Nothing will be decided this week, and let’s not forget we aren’t even a third of the way through the season.
I can’t wait for this game and to whet your appetite, I have disseminated a couple of Arsenal v Liverpool betting tips to mull over ahead of kick-off.
Liverpool to show what they are made of
It may not be the crazy, heavy-metal football of the Jurgen Klopp era, but Arne Slot has made Liverpool tough to break down, and they have the meanest defence in the league, shipping just three goals.
While they are at the start of an eminently tough run of games, Liverpool are calmly going about their business, and showing no obvious chinks in their armour.
Arsenal, on the other hand, will have been reeling after seeing their unbeaten record evaporate against Bournemouth, but they have ridden their luck at times this campaign.
William Saliba’s dismissal against the Cherries was the Gunners’ third of the campaign, and they will sorely miss him.
Compared to team-mate Gabriel, Saliba has attempted and completed more tackles this term in the league, and the Gunners’ points per game drops from 2.4 to 1.6 when Saliba doesn’t play.
Injuries though have mounted for Arsenal. With Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka likely to miss out, Mikel Arteta will have to shift things around, with Raheem Sterling likely to start while Gabriel Jesus will be desperate to break his duck this term.
Arsenal may have won the corresponding fixture against Liverpool 3-1 last term, but I think Liverpool will show what they are made of and come out on top this time. I’m backing Liverpool at 15/8 with William Hill, although if you are a little braver, there is a 2Up deal of 6/4 with the same bookie, so you will be paid out early if Liverpool are leading by 2 goals at any stage in the game.
Curtis Jones to turn in another brilliant display
After years of threatening to be a world-beater, Curtis Jones is living up to his hype at Liverpool.
He’s clocked up 231 minutes in five Premier League appearances this season, but if his display against Chelsea was anything to go by, he won’t be unduly concerned by a trip to North London.
Jones has always been a tidy player in possession, and his passing accuracy this term stands at 93.4%, his highest over the past five seasons.
Last weekend, Jones grabbed the winner, and I fancy him to bag the last goal of the game again. If you like the sound of that, bet365 has dished odds of 16/1.
