The odds on Luton Town to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season have lengthened following their loss to Manchester City on Saturday.
The Hatters have been in the relegation mix all season and following a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s men, they are now 13/8 to avoid relegation in 2023/24.
Rob Edwards on Luton’s Premier League relegation fight
Most people gave Luton Town little chance of avoiding relegation in the 2023/24 campaign, with some even speculating they could match Derby County for the lowest points total in Premier League history (11).
However, the Hatters have exceeded expectations to some extent, currently sitting 18th in the division and only one point from safety.
Speaking post-match on Saturday, Luton boss Rob Edwards stressed the importance of writing off the Manchester City result and instead focusing on his side’s final five games:
“We now have five huge games that we can get ourselves out of it, we almost have to write this off,” he said.
“They scored three worldies, there was lots of shots and Thomas had to make some saves. We kept going and they got the last couple later on when they wore us down. The players never dropped their heads and we wont accept that. What gives me belief is our fans right with us till the end and we are going to need them.”
The first of Luton’s final five games comes at home to Brentford on April 20. Back Luton to beat the Bees at 21/20.
