Ronaldo Contract Terminated - Where Next for CR7?

The news we’ve all been waiting for, despite enjoying the World Cup, has finally been made official.

Manchester United have terminated the contract of Cristiano Ronaldo, and he will leave the club with immediate effect.

After his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, he was always going to leave, it was a case of when and where to, now we are just left with the latter, where will Ronaldo play next?

The World Cup Shop Window

On the eve of Portugal’s first game at the World Cup, which will come on Thursday at 4pm, Cristiano Ronaldo is now in the shop window, and looking for a job.

Don’t be surprised to see him elevate his performances, with a point to prove, and a showing that will attract interest from clubs all around the world.

His Portuguese team mates love him, they want him to be a success, so will no doubt play for him, which adds an intriguing element to their chances of success in Qatar.

Where Will Cristiano Ronaldo Play Next?

Even before he left Manchester United officially, talk was already about where Ronaldo would play next in his career.

The rumours suggest a couple of logical options are open to him. The first would be a move back home, to finish his career where it all started, which would be a move back to Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo is adored in Portugal, the league is of a lower standard than the Premier League, and he would no doubt be able to shine over there.

He would also get to remain in the public eye on the world stage, by playing in the Champions League.

Elsewhere, a move to the MLS is another option that may appeal to him. Being able to play out his career in the USA certainly has its benefits, and again, it would put him in a position where he would be able to shine in the league, and be adored by the fans.

There has been a lot of talk around Lionel Messi moving to the MLS, with Inter Miami allegedly in pole position to sign him.

Football would love another final bout between Messi and Ronaldo, could the MLS provide a backdrop for that? I’m sure the league would love to play a part in it, and the attention they would bring to the US game.

Of course, other clubs will fancy their chances, but how he performs at the World Cup will probably have a bearing on those offers, how many they are, and where they are from. A good World Cup, with a few goals, and don’t be surprised if a big European side comes knocking, to give him one last hurrah.
