- Hampshire Hawks v Worcestershire Rapids
- Vitality Blast, Quarter-Final
- Friday July 7, 2023, 7pm
- The Ageas Bowl
This is the quarter-final which to me has the look of being the most one-sided affair out of the lot.
I just think reigning champions Hampshire will be too strong for the Rapids, keeping them on course to become the first county to win the title four times and the first to win it back-to-back.
Hampshire finished second in the South Group behind Somerset, winning nine of their 14 matches to Worcestershire’s eight from 14 and third-placed finish in the North.
I absolutely think James Vince’s Hampshire justify the 8/13 favouritism on offer with bet365.
Rapids can win sixes battle but not the war
Worcestershire have hit 92 sixes in this season’s Blast compared to Hampshire’s 79. But bet365 have the Rapids at 13/8 outsiders to hit most sixes in this match.
That’s something I would be taking on in this fixture, despite my strong suspicion that Hampshire will win the match.
John can deliver the Turner prize as Vince rolls on
There are a couple of prices on Hampshire captain James Vince’s continued success which I would be taking.
Vince is the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 638, and BetUK have him at 1/1 to score over 29.5 runs in the match.
The second I would be keen on is the bet365 2/1 for the fringe England batter to score a fifty in this fixture. It’s something he has done eight times in 14 innings this campaign, including a century.
New Zealand all-rounder Mitch Santner’s recent form from number three for Worcestershire has seen him justifiably jump to be his county’s favourite for their top run-scorer market.
He’s their second leading run-scorer with 391, just behind Adam Hose on 397, but he has posted scores of 49, 13, 56, 42 and 64 in his last five North Group innings.
Hose is the favourite on the list, but left-handed Santner is on offer at 7/2 with Ladbrokes to be the Rapids’ leading run-scorer in Southampton.
Sometimes you see prices that make you look twice, others even three times.
There’s one on offer with bet365, on Hampshire’s young seamer John Turner to be their top wicket-taker in this quarter-final. They have priced him up at 11/2.
That can’t be right. Compare it to Ladbrokes for example, where he is their joint 3/1 favourite.
Turner is the sixth favourite on bet365′s list, yet the 22-year-old seamer is Hampshire’s joint leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 18 alongside Australian overseas fast bowler Nathan Ellis.
Of course, there’s no guarantee Turner will come up with the goods here. But he has to be sided with at that price given his tournament form.
