Well, Chennai have done me dirty, haven’t they. Here was I thinking they’d be in with a chance of finishing bottom of the ladder and they’d ended up nearly finishing top. Magic MS Dhoni is on course to win a fifth title.
Look, they’ve impressed, no doubt about it. But I still don’t expect them to win the title.
They finished second behind reigning champions Gujarat, who have been absolutely remarkable after coming into the IPL as a brand new franchise only last year.
A quirk of the scheduling sees them take the spot as the designated home team at Chennai’s home ground. Chennai effectively being at home is the only reason I can see for them being marginal favourites for this one. But I would be taking the 1/1 on offer with Ladbrokes amongst others on a Titans triumph.

Just before I get onto the man of the moment, Shubman Gill, here is as short-priced tip via bet365′s player performance market. I quite like the look of the over 30.5 mark at 5/6 available for Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha.
He opens the batting alongside Gill and keeps to Rashid Khan, so there’s always the chance of a stumping or two. It is a point per run, 10 per catch and 25 per stumping.

Gill will and Chennai won’t
Gujarat and India opener Shubman Gill has had a fine competition and a stunning last few days, moving towards 700 tournament runs with back-to-back centuries. And I can’t see a reason why we should be siding with anyone else following scores of 101 v Sunrisers and Monday and 104 not out against Bangalore on Sunday.

Could the 23-year-old become the first batter to ever score three hundreds in as many IPL games in this forthcoming fixture against CSK? I suspect it won’t happen, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
He’s the fourth player to have scored two in a row alongside Shikhar Dhawan (2020), Jos Buttler (2022) and Virat Kohli inside the last week.
