Netherlands v Ecuador Match Preview
The Netherlands will be targeting a spot in the knockout stages of the World Cup when they tackle Ecuador in their second group match on Friday afternoon.
Although they weren’t at their best against Senegal, they found a way to get over the line and pinched a 2-0 win.
Meanwhile, Ecuador, and Enner Valencia, in particular, was on fire. They coasted to a 2-0 victory over Qatar in the World Cup curtain raiser, and the Qataris proved to be limited opposition.
With a couple of upsets already inflicted on Argentina and Germany at the World Cup, Ecuador will be looking to tear up the script and stun the Netherlands.
Intriguingly, this will be the first competitive meeting between Ecuador and the Netherlands, and we can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.
So, with that in mind, we have handpicked a couple of tips for you to add to your betting slips ahead of kick-off.
Another late show from the Netherlands
Earlier this week, the Netherlands huffed and puffed, and they were even troubled at times by Senegal before snatching three points.
Two goals inside the last six minutes of the game were the difference, and Memphis Depay’s introduction brought about a huge roar from the Oranje faithful.
To a certain extent, Senegal was their toughest match of the group, but they got the job done against a side who were missing their main talisman in Sadio Mane.
The Netherlands will have to be mindful of Valencia, who looked sharp when he netted a double against Qatar, while Pervis Estupinan will provide the creativity from defence and bomb down the left channel.
This doesn’t look like an easy game on paper, and we could be in for a thriller. The Netherlands may be involved in some late drama, but I have a hunch that they will wrap up three points. I think they will secure the victory and both teams will score, a price that is available at a tempting 3/1 with bet365.
Cody Gakpo to be the Netherlands hero
The Netherlands isn’t short on attacking talent, and Cody Gakpo certainly seems to have all the attributes.
Gakpo will be hoping to put himself in the shop window, and speculation has been swirling over his future, with Manchester United among the potential suitors tracking him.
He did himself no harm with a Man-of-the-Match display against Senegal when he planted a home header, beating Edouard Mendy to the ball, and he is an exciting talent.
Once again, Gakpo could play a starring role against Ecuador, and he could well clinch the matchwinner. If you like to gravitate towards the goalscorer markets, then Gakpo is available at 6/1 with Paddy Power to score the last goal of the game, which may be worth exploring further.
