Women’s Wimbledon Betting Tips

We have been treated to a terrific Wimbledon event as ever this year, represented aptly by Johanna Konta’s hard-fought graft over world number two Simona Halep in the Quarter final stage. The young Brit had to defy the odds after going a set down and allowing her serve to be broken by the Romanian in the second set tiebreak, leaving the score at 5-4 to Halep in the deciding game.

Miraculously, Konta showed nerves of steel to break both of the next two serves to remain in the set, before walloping a ferocious shot past her downhearted opponent to even the score to one set all. Brit Konta followed up with a storming third set victory to win the match, much to the delight of the crowd, completing the quickest set of the match in just 49 minutes.

Up next for Konta is world number eleven and previous five time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in a huge semi final match. Williams has disposed of Ana Konjuh and Jelena Ostapenko with relative ease in the previous two rounds, so the challenge of Konta will be massive for the 37 year old. Konta is shortening as favourite for this match, with currently 5/6 available at William Hill, while Williams is 11/10 with Paddy Power. Given the fantastic year the Brit has had and her electrifying display against Halep, the 5/6 is terrific value for her to reach the final.

In the other semi, now-tournament favourite Garbine Muguruza faces outsider Magdalena Rybarikova, who entered the tournament as high as 500/1 with top bookmakers. Muguruza is actually a clay specialist, achieving most of her success at the French Open. The 23 year old has had three early exits at Wimbledon previously, although she reached the final in 2015 before losing to Serena Williams. In their previous grass meeting, the Slovakian toppled Muguruza in a 2-0 straight set triumph.

Rybarikova has reached the furthest stage she has ever reached in any Grand Slam tournament by making it this far. Her wins against Karolina Pliskova and Coco Vandeweghe so far have shown that she is more than just hype this year, nonetheless. She has only lost once throughout this grass season, winning 23 out of 24 matches with the one loss coming against Johanna Konta in Nottingham.

Spaniard Muguruza has dropped just one set in her five matches so far, that coming in an intense battle with world number one Angelique Kerber. Expect a tight battle here as Rybarikova was broken just once by Vandeweghe across two sets. Realistically, Muguruza should come out on top, though Rybarikova could take it all the way to three sets with the form she’s in. MarathonBet are offering 5/6 on the Slovakian with a +4.5 handicap, which appears to be terrific value, while Muguruza to win 2-1 in the set betting is 3/1 with Paddy Power.

As it stands, the 5/2 available on Konta to win the tournament with Coral looks good value in the outright betting. She has beaten Muguruza twice in their previous three meetings and looks ready for her first Grand Slam success.
