Howe gives Newcastle injury update

Before playing host to Chelsea, Eddie Howe held his latest pre-match press conference on Friday.

During the presser, Howe was quizzed on Newcastle’s rather lengthy injury list, which prior to this weekend, had 14 players on it.

And though a number of players remain out for this game, Howe did have some good news in his presser.

When asked about injuries, he said: “We’ve had a very small squad. Players came back yesterday so good to see the group back together. We’re ready for the game.”

On Alexander Isak, he added: “I don’t want to give too much away. We have the majority of players out with longer-term injuries. January for a few of them.”

Howe was less coy with speaking about Fabian Schar, Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier: “Fab [Schar] was more of a precautionary issue. Miggy has worked really well over the international break. Kieran’s fine. He’s trained with us since returning from England.”
