One theme of the flat racing scene in the UK this year has been the impending retirement of Frankie Dettori at the end of the season.
However, racing awoke on Thursday to the massive news that retirement plans are off for Frankie as he has announced that he will now head stateside in 2024 to ride full-time in California.
Dettori’s main aim in the US is to ride in the Kentucky Derby, but he has not ruled out riding at Royal Ascot and in other major races in the UK and Europe.
The jockey told the Racing Post - “I didn’t expect this year to be so successful. I feel like I still have to get it all out of my system, so the obvious choice for me is to move full-time to America because I had such a good time there over the winter.”
So, at 52 years old and one of the most prominent personalities in the sport, racing fans are set to see more of Frankie in the saddle through 2024.
