To Win Outright

Realistically, the top five teams are all in with a shout of claiming a league title: Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Defending Champions Manchester City are still in contention to go for a record of four straight league title wins, but they’ll still be two points off top spot even if they win their games in hand.

It’s Liverpool who are the driving force at the minute, and with their brilliant defensive record and lack of losses putting them in first position, derailing them looks to be a tough ask.

It is hardly a two-horse race, as Arsenal and Aston Villa occupy third and fourth place on 43 points; five points off Liverpool at the top of the pile.

Arsenal came so close to claiming a long awaited title last season, and have absolutely improved their squad with the signing of Declan Rice. However, they recently suffered back-to-back losses against Fulham and West Ham which has seen Arteta’s side lose a little ground.

Aston Villa have been one of the standout sides of this season’s campaign, and their home form has been a main point of positivity. They’re one of three sides who remain unbeaten at home this season, and are the most successful side in front of their own crowd having gained 28 points from nine wins and one draw.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs have provided some unbelievable adverts for the Premier League with a host of entertaining games this season. A combative and attacking style that has been either hit or miss; either blowing teams away, or losing due to being too exposed from their eagerness to go forward. However, they’ve only lost once in their last six and look to be peaking at the right time.

Man City - 8/13, Liverpool - 5/2, Arsenal - 7/1, Tottenham - 33/1, Aston Villa - 40/1

Top Goalscorer

Considering he has been out of league action since December 6th, Erling Haaland remains joint-top of the Premier League goalscorer chart. After winning the Golden Boot award last season, this year has seen him bag 14 goals across 15 appearances, and his imminent return to league action will likely see him pick up where he left off.

Mohamed Salah has scored 14 goals too, but over the slightly longer period of 20 league appearances. Salah’s scoring ratio throughout 251 league games is better than 0.5 goals a game, but his recent injury at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt could set him back in the Golden Boot running.

Heung-Min Son and Dominic Solanke both sit closely behind on 13 goals. Son is currently on international duty at the Asia Cup with South Korea, which leaves the door open for the in-form Dominic Solanke to continue his brilliant scoring form with Bournemouth in his absence.

Ollie Watkins sits in eighth, with nine goals to his name. He acquired 15 goals at the end of last year, but with Villa doing so well he will likely continue to spearhead their attacking threat.

Erling Haaland - 2/5, Mohamed Salah - 3/1, Heung-Min Son - 12/1, Dominic Solanke - 20/1, Ollie Watkins - 28/1

To be Relegated

For all the excitement surrounding chasing league titles, or claiming the league’s most prolific scoring accolade; sides are beginning to sweat as they run out of time to escape the relegation spots.

Sheffield United are sitting bottom of the league currently, and may be praying that sides narrowly above them could be on the wrong end of points deductions based on financial fair play regulations being broken. It makes for poor reading if you’re a Blades fan, as they’ve scored the least amount of goals, and conceded the most amount of goals, which puts them in an unsurprising position.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley picked up a vital three points away at Fulham at the end of December, but two losses and a draw straight after leaves them the wrong side of the red line. They’ve only kept two clean sheets in the league this year, and have had a slight discipline issue having received the joint-highest amount of red cards across the league. A brave brand of football, but they need points fast.

Luton have scored as many league goals as Manchester United, yet find themselves in 18th position. Back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Sheffield United have put them in a better spot amongst the bottom three, with the safety of 17th position only one point away.

Everton and Nottingham Forest leave themselves in a dangerous position just above the drop. This would be a risk at the best of times, but with plenty of talk surrounding the potential points deductions that could be implemented, their positions could drastically change.

Sheffield United - 1/16, Burnley - 1/3, Luton - 1/2, Nottm Forest - 7/4, Everton - 3/1
