Newcastle dealt yet another injury blow

Before facing PSG, the Magpies beat Chelsea 4-1 on Sunday. Fabian Schar, Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron all returned to the side following injuries.

But just as things were looking up for the North East outfit, Joe Willock missed the Chelsea game due to an Achillies issue and will play no part on Tuesday.

Speaking after the win, Eddie Howe reflected on Willock’s injury blow: “It looks like a recurrence of an Achilles injury that he had a few weeks ago. It’s a massive blow for us.

“We don’t know how long he’s going to be out, we’re going to have to seek specialist advice, but it’s a huge blow for us.”

When asked if he had ever experienced anything like the injury crisis Newcastle are currently facing, Howe said: “I’m sure it has happened, but I’ve personally not been involved in anything like this. It just seems every way we turn, we’re picking up another injury.

“The Joe Willock one was very hard for everybody to take yesterday, especially as its another recurrence, and I think that’s the frustrating thing.”
