Pep’s Picks: Who City Could Sign This January

It’s all going rather well for Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team. The club are seven points clear of rivals Manchester United at the top of the league and are absolutely flying in the Champions League.

The club are currently favourites to win the Premier League comfortably at 1 / 6 with BetVictor and are only likely to increase their chances after a winter of spending.

Pep will no doubt have his eye on a few players come January and rumours are already starting to circulate. But who’s at the top of their wish list?

Alexis Sanchez

City will be looking to swoop in for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez ahead of any European rivals so a move for the Chilean seems imminent.

With Pep looking to boost the Manchester City Champions League odds a move for Arsenal’s star man could be a good one.

The hard worker would give City an even more frightening attack and they will likely get a good deal for him with his contract expiring in the summer.

Emre Can

Most of Europe are on red alert when it comes to Emre Can and City are confident of getting the German to sign on the dotted line.

Another out of contract in the summer and talks suggest he could see that period out at Liverpool before making a switch to the Etihad.

Should Guardiola want extra cover for his squad as the season gets busier and busier, we could see some cash splashed for him in January.

Can can play in a number of positions and his friendship with Leroy Sane could be a big influence on a transfer to City ahead of Juventus, their main competition.

Ryan Bertrand

City are currently getting by with Fabian Delph in a full back role following the long term injury to Benjamin Mendy, so a move to secure a left back in January seems likely.

Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand is at the top of Pep’s wish list and has been watched a number of times since the Spaniard took charge.

The Saints are asking for £30million however, which could be what puts City off but we’d expect some sort of move for a left back this winter, with the position perhaps one of the club’s only weaknesses this season.

Aaron Martin

20-year-old left back Aarón Martin has been linked with a number of clubs recently including Manchester United and should a move for Bertrand not materialise, Guardiola will turn to Martin.

The Espanyol star has been watched by City scouts and it’s thought they’re ready to scupper any deal United may begin to make for him.

He’d be the perfect stand in at left back for the rest of the season and is hotly tipped to become one of the best in his position over the next few years.

Again he won’t come cheap with a £35million price tag on his head, but Guardiola still has plenty left over in the kitty from his summer spending.
