Sheffield Wednesday Relegation Odds: 6/5 after Blackburn win

Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of securing Championship survival this season were given a major boost over the weekend.

Who will be relegated from the Championship?

After beating Blackburn 3-1, Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of staying up have been boosted. They sit 21st in the table on 47 points but remain one of five teams who could realistically go down with two games to play.

24th-place Rotherham have already sealed their fate, sitting on a dismal 24 points after 44 games. But only five points separate 23rd-place Huddersfield and 19th-place Blackburn with two games left.

Relegation Contenders

19th- Blackburn Rovers (49 points)

The loss to Sheffield Wednesday this past weekend could prove detrimental to Blackburn’s survival hopes. The Rovers won two and drew one of their previous four league games before the loss - form which looked set to see them secure safety with a few games to spare.

However, Blackburn now have two really tough games to end the campaign versus 8th-place Coventry and league leaders, Leicester City.

20th- Plymouth (48 points)

A recent change in manager saw Plymouth find some much-needed form, picking up two wins and a draw (including a 1-0 victory versus Leicester) before the latest set of Championship games.

However, Plymouth fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke last time out, leaving them just two points from safety ahead of their final two games versus 16th-place Millwall and 7th-place Hull.

22nd- Birmingham City (46 points)

Birmingham City’s play-off push earlier in the campaign now seems like nothing more than a distant memory. The Blues began a dismal run of form when Wayne Rooney took the helm and they have not been able to stop that rut after the Manchester United legend’s dismissal.

Birmingham’s final two league games this term come against 23rd-place Huddersfield and 6th-place Norwich City.

23rd- Huddersfield Town (44 points)

2023/24 has been a campaign to forget for Huddersfield Town. The Terriers have picked up just nine wins in 44 games so far this season and have the joint-second worst defence in the division behind only 24th-place Rotherham.

However, their hopes of survival are not completely over. The Yorkshire outfit take on 22nd-place Birmingham on April 27 and a win could see them move as high as 21st. But their final game of the season is against 2nd-place Ipswich Town, meaning they really have to beat Birmingham later this week.
