Canadian Grand Prix Betting Tips

Monaco wasn’t the best of outings for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes with the Brit finishing way down the podium in seventh. They’ll have to hit back in Montreal over the weekend, making what could be one of the most exciting and intriguing races of the season so far.

Ferrari go into the weekend with Sebastian Vettel 25 points clear at the top of the drivers’ table following an impressive win in Monaco. Hamilton saw out Vettel in Montreal last year, but which way will the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix head?

Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel goes into the race as joint favourite alongside Lewis Hamilton and following Ferrari’s dominance in Monte Carlo, where they picked up first and second with Kimi Raikkonen just behind the German. Both to finish on the podium could be a good punt with Raikkonen at evens to do so.

The Italian team haven’t won the Grand Prix since 2004 and this year is certainly their best opportunity to do so in recent years. It’s thought that Monaco was a turning point in the championship, another win in Canada and you’d think the current odds of 4/6 with 888sport for Vettel to win the Drivers’ Championship will change considerably.

Mercedes

Mercedes on the other hand will be desperate to fight back and is a crucial race if they’re going to keep in touch with Ferrari and Vettel.

Hamilton is targeting his sixth win in Montreal and is favourite to do so. Expected to also post the fastest qualifying lap at 11/10 with SkyBet, this year could put him just one win behind Michael Schumacher in the most Canada Grand Prix wins of all time stakes.

Monaco was a rough ride for Mercedes though, they struggled to get Pirelli’s tyres to the right operating temperature which saw Hamilton slide down to seventh, while teammate Valtteri Bottas only just got it right, posting a fairly quick qualifying time and finishing in fourth.

Even he couldn’t get close to Ferrari though and it was certainly the most out of touch the team have looked for a good few years.

Red Bull

Last time out in Monaco Red Bull did exactly what they needed to, recapturing some form thanks to Daniel Ricciardo.

The Australian seems full of confident and has been quick to say he’s ready to take on the Canadian Grand Prix too. He won the race back in back in 2014 and is at 20/1 to win it again. A podium finish looks more likely with the driver at 4/1 with most bookies to edge into the spots.

Meanwhile, teammate Max Verstappen is a slight favourite ahead of Ricciardo at 16/1 and is also a fan of the course after battling well with Nico Rosberg last season and taking fourth spot ahead of him.

We expect a big battle between Mercedes and Ferrari as the latter do their best to extend their lead at the top of the Constructors Championship standings. A Ferrari win could signal a changing of the guard, but it’s far too early to write off Mercedes, with the German team still favourite to seal it come the end of the season.
