Ahead of the ongoing round of fixtures in the IPL, the fourth game for all teams, Rajasthan Royals were top of the table with two wins and a healthy net run-rate.
They had the best record of six teams all locked on four points, one of the other teams being Chennai.
Both teams have won two games from four, but it does surprise me somewhat that last year’s beaten finalists Rajasthan are the outsiders for this fixture.
I would definitely be siding with them at 1/1, on offer with bet365.
The reasons, I felt Rajasthan had the much better squad before a ball was bowled, and they have won two of their games by over 50 runs and very nearly chased down 198 in the fixture they lost against Punjab.
High-scoring duo - but signs also point to spin success
Look at the opening game at this venue between Chennai and Lucknow a week or so ago and it was a high-scoring, 200 plus apiece affair.
But it also saw spin enjoy some success. Chennai’s Moeen Ali claimed four wickets and Lucknow leggie Ravi Bishnoi three-for.
With that in mind, added to the fact that Rajasthan’s Yuzvendra Chahal has had a super start to his campaign with eight wickets, I think it would be prudent to side with him on a couple of bets.
The first is the 6/5 bet365 are offering on the leg-spinner, who recently got his team-mate Joe Root dancing, to take over 1.5 wickets in the match.
The second is the 11/4 on offer with Betfred for him to be his side’s top wicket-taker.
Just returning to the topic of a Rajasthan win, I quite like the look of the 8/5 on offer from Betfair via their #OddsOnThat selections for the Royals to win and both teams to score 160 or more in that match.
Both sides have been strong with the bat so far, and each topping 160 is very realistic.
If you want to take the result out of the equation, 2/1 on both teams to score 180 plus also has appeal.
Chennai have posted scores of 178-7, 217-7 and 159-3, while Rajasthan have totalled 203-5, 192-7 and 199-4.
Never mind Chahal boogying, let’s dance the Jadeja jig
Chennai’s Ravi Jadeja has had an encouraging start to the tournament with the ball, claiming four wickets from three games, including 3-20 in their last match on Saturday.
The left-arm spinner also claimed 1-28 from four overs in the opening game.
I quite like the look of the 4/1 on offer with Paddy Power amongst others on him to be Chennai’s leading wicket-taker in this fixture.
He is the kind of character who just loves a stage, and he is two away from 200 career wickets in T20 cricket. Wouldn’t he just love to do it in front of his home crowd?
