Every competition has one - a team you look at and think, ‘They should be doing much better than they are’. Tottenham fall into that category in football.
In T20 cricket terms, the Melbourne Stars have been one in Australia’s Big Bash League. In the IPL, it’s the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
How can a team who have fielded talent such as Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers and Chris Gayle - at the same time at stages - never have won the IPL?
But maybe this is their year. I thought it would be last under the leadership of Faf du Plessis. It didn’t quite work out as they were beaten in the semi-finals.
If they win on Thursday, against my tip for the bottom of the table Kolkata, hopes will certainly be high amongst RCB supporters.
Kolkata Knight Riders v Royal Challengers Bangalore, Eden Gardens, Kolkata (Thursday, 3pm UK)
I think RCB will win this one. They are 7/10 with Paddy Power to do so. If you read my competition preview, you will know my thoughts on KKR. For those of you who didn’t, I don’t rate them particularly highly.
They were beaten comfortably in their opener on Saturday by Punjab, a game in which they were expensive with the ball and weak with the bat.
Virat Kohli, meanwhile, led the red and black to a commanding win the following day against Mumbai Indians, the team who I tipped to be champions. Chasing 172, Kohli opened the batting, made 82 not out and shared 148 inside 15 overs for the first wicket with Faf du Plessis (73).
It amazes me that BetUK have Dinesh Karthik at 15/2 to be RCB’s top batter, despite him scoring a duck in the opener and being up against two legendary batters who got 82 and 73.
Karthik is no mug - he has 32 career fifties in T20 cricket - and came in at number three against Mumbai. That price is way too high on a player of his calibre.
Consider this. Bet365 have him at 7/2 for the same market. I would be going small stakes on him to be RCB’s top bat.
Lucknow Super Giants v Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow (Friday, 3pm UK)
Even if this preview throws up a series of dud bets, at least you will have learnt something - that the cricket stadium in Lucknow has a very long name!
You are also going to learn that I am a stubborn so and so and will be sticking with Sunrisers, who I think look better than the basement battlers that many of the bookmakers have them down to be.
They lost their opening game in resounding fashion against Rajasthan on Sunday - limited to 131-8 in pursuit of 204. But I’m going to give them a second chance.
Unibet are amongst the companies who have Harry Brook and co to win at 6/5. They are up against a Lucknow side who lost their opener - a 200 plus apiece affair - to Chennai on Monday.
Unibet also have Brook to score over 20.5 runs in the match at 1/1. I would be taking that. He failed in game one with 13 from number four, but I think that’s a good price for him to have what only needs to be a reasonable day out.
Brook has also been price boosted to 11/2 by Bet365 to be his side’s top batter. That’s also very appealing on a player amongst the best in the world at present.
