Lancashire Lightning v Yorkshire Vikings Betting Tips
If Lancashire win this one, they’re through to the quarter-finals. No ifs nor buts. If Yorkshire win, they could qualify but still may not.
This is Lancashire’s penultimate game of the North Group, and they sit second in the table - safely inside the top four qualifying places. This is Yorkshire’s last game, and they are fifth, a point outside.
Yorkshire claimed a rare and surprise Roses Blast win at Headingley at the start of this month when they won by 15 runs defending a 196 target.
I say surprise win. It was to many, but not me. Yorkshire had only won one game all season up to that point and had been written off as no hopers against a star-studded Lightning side. It was a foregone conclusion. But sport’s not that simple.
However, this time around, I’m not anticipating another shock. I fully expect Lancashire, with Jos Buttler and many more stars available, to get the job done.
They’re 8/11 with bet365 to win, and I actually thought they’d be a bit shorter. I’d be taking that price.
Buttler finding form at just the right time - and Lyth can shine for the Vikings
Jos Buttler hit a blistering 83 - his best T20 score for Lancashire in almost 10 years with the club - in last Friday’s win over Derbyshire at Emirates Old Trafford.
He had a quiet end to the IPL in May and then start to the Blast, but he has found form which I expect to continue.
In his last five Blast innings, he has scored 58, 0, 31, 74 and 83.
Ladbrokes have him at price boosted 5/2 to post a half-century in the match. That’s a very appealing price.
I can also see Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth having a successful night. He was one of the Vikings standout players in T20 cricket, thought I accept his recent form doesn’t back up my theory.
However, Lyth is quality and loves playing against Lancashire across all formats of the game, including a trio of Blast fifties in this fixture.
Ladbrokes are offering 10/3 on him to score a fifty in the match and also 10/3 to be Yorkshire’s top run-scorer in the match. I’d be spreading my stakes across the two.
And finally, back to Buttler. I would be taking a small stakes approach on the 15/2 vbet are offering on Buttler to be the player-of-the-match. That will be the one awarded by Sky Sports immediately afterwards.
Friday fun day brings tasty treble
There are eight Blast matches tomorrow evening, and I’m going to pick out three for a near 4/1 treble, including a Lancashire win. It’s actually 3.62/1 with betfred.
The first leg is Lancashire to win, and the others are fellow North Group counties Worcestershire to beat Durham and Derbyshire to beat Leicestershire.
Worcestershire are third in the North and on course for the quarter-finals and face a struggling Durham side. Derbyshire still mathematically in the quarter-final race, but they have to win their final two games to have any chance of qualifying. The Falcons face bottom side the Foxes.
