The beers are flowing at the World Matchplay Darts, and the tips are coming thick and fast as we try to pick the winners in Blackpool.
Our focus is on the evening session on Sunday as former champions Michael van Gerwen and James Wade take to the oche in front of a sellout crowd.
Who will edge into the last 16, and who will be sent packing to the beach for the rest of the week?
Let’s take a look at the best tips and picks for Day 2′s evening session play in Blackpool.
Joe Cullen v Damon Heta (July 17, 19:30)
Despite Damon Heta’s impressive climb in the PDC, the “Rockstar” Joe Cullen is beautifully priced at 11/10.
Heta’s tail is up following a World Cup win alongside Simon Whitlock but has struggled to make a big dent in a singles major.
Cullen has already won a major this season at the Masters and fell at the final hurdle in the Premier League, losing 11-10 in the final to Michael van Gerwen.
Cullen has quarter-final pedigree here from 2018 and might score too heavily for the Australian in this race to 10.
James Wade v Martin Lukeman (July 17, 20:30)
James Wade is a master of Matchplay darts.
The “Machine” is a former champion from 2007 and has reached another five finals at the Winter Gardens.
Martin Lukeman finished runner-up at the German Darts Grand Prix but doesn’t have the stamina or scoring power to trouble the experienced Wade.
Wade to get out of the traps quickly, is priced well.
Michael van Gerwen v Adrian Lewis (July 17, 21:30)
Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis go way back...
Both players are big hitters and love a good show of “peacockery” on the oche.
“Jackpot” isn’t the player he was when he was scooping back-to-back world titles, but he has started showing real improvements again in recent weeks.
As they relight this rivalry, look out for a 170 finish – both are very comfortable on the bull.
Luke Humphries v Nathan Aspinall (July 17, 22:30)
You’d struggle to find a player in better form than Luke Humphries at the moment.
He’s a real pick as a dark horse in Blackpool, considering the three European Tour titles he has already managed to collect in 2022.
Nathan Aspinall has gone off the boil since exploding onto the scene in 2019 but can’t be counted out inside the Winter Gardens.
But a -2.5 handicap attached to Humphries should see “Cool Hand” over the line.
