All eyes will be on the Scottish Open this week, and the DP World Tour action will come from the picturesque Renaissance Club in North Berwick.
With this tournament preceding the final Major of the season, the British Open next week, there will be plenty of star power in this week’s field.
As is the case with links golf, playing smartly and keeping it out of the rough will be the main objective, although there are some monster holes such as the par-5 third hole that stretches 600 yards to contend with.
Of course, there will be some that will be happy to tackle this beast without laying up, and going for it whenever the opportunity arises.
The reigning champion Xander Schauffele, who wound up with a winning score of -7, will be one to pay close attention to, but it will be fascinating to see how the home contingent gets on.
We can’t wait to see how things unfold at the Scottish Open, and to aid your betting slip, I have handpicked a couple of selections worth mulling over.
Rickie Fowler to continue his resurgence
Having had a quick breather since his last successful outing at the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier this month where he prevailed in a play-off, Rickie Fowler took time out of his schedule to enjoy the tennis at Wimbledon.
Fowler’s renaissance after a few years in the doldrums has been nothing short of spectacular, and he is up to 23rd in the world rankings.
The American, who came close to winning the US Open last month, is a former Scottish Open champion, and he nearly won the British Open in 2014, but he was pipped to the post by McIlroy.
It’s fair to say that the 34-year-old Fowler doesn’t seem fazed anymore, and he has shot some low rounds this year.
He ranks second for total driving efficiency and third for Par 3 scoring average, and he has the tools to sweep his way to victory this week.
For my first pick, I am going with Fowler to triumph, and he’s trading at an inviting 16/1 to do so with bet365.
Robert MacIntyre to have another positive week
After some indifferent results this season, Robert MacIntyre has started to pick up some momentum, and he was in the mix for things at the Made in Himmerland before he had to settle for a T4.
The two-time DP World Tour winner is always a danger, and he would love to win on home soil before teeing it up at the British Open.
Indeed, the Scottish Open is always a good tester before the Open, where MacIntyre’s best performance was a T6 at Royal Portrush in 2019.
As mentioned, this is a field stacked with talent, and MacIntyre could well post some decent scores. For my second pick, I have gone with MacIntyre to land a top-10 finish, which is available at 15/2 with bet365 bookmakers, and worth following up on.
