Arsenal match Premier League record

Following Havertz’s late winner, Arsenal went top of the Premier League.

Manchester City were top of the table pre-match after they drew 1-1 with 2nd place Liverpool in the day’s early kick-off.

But after that draw and Arsenal’s win, the north Londoners matched a record as this is the second time in Premier League history the top two have met but neither have finished the day top of the table, after 28th November 2015 (Leicester 1-1 Man Utd, Man City ended day top).

On going top of the Premier League, Mikel Arteta had this to say:

“So happy,” he said. “When you have the opportunity to go top, and you come and winter starts and it’s cold you come to a place as uncomfortable as Brentford, I think the team showed so much willingness to compete, to dig in and to play the game.

“We had to play to win it and I think we fully deserved to win the game. I’m so happy.”
