Manchester City vs Manchester United

To reach the FA Cup final, Manchester City saw off Huddersfield Town, Tottenham, Luton Town, Newcastle United and Chelsea. The Sky Blues kept clean sheets in four of those five outings, only conceding two versus Luton in the 5th round.

As for Manchester United, they had a somewhat easier run to the final, only facing Premier League opposition twice. They beat Wigan in the 3rd round, Newport County in the 4th round, Nottingham Forest in the 5th round, Liverpool in the quarter-finals and Coventry City in the semis.

Despite the ‘easier’ run, however, the Red Devils nearly never made it to the competition’s showpiece after blowing a 3-0 lead vs Championship outfit Coventry in their last cup tie. Erik ten Hag’s side were forced to take the game to penalties, where they came out on top at 7-5 shootout winners.

Manchester City are the current holders of the FA Cup, beating Man United 2-1 in the same fixture last year as part of their historic treble-winning campaign. The Citizens have now won seven FA Cups throughout history, with only five teams winning the prize on more occasions.

As for Manchester United, they have dominated this competition in the past, winning the FA Cup 12 times (only Arsenal have won it more with 14). However, United have not won it since 2016 - losing their last two meetings in the final.
