Juventus vs Internazionale match preview

It’s a huge top of the table clash from Serie A, as the 150th edition of the Derby d’Italia takes centre stage on Sunday night.

Right now, it’s Internazionale who lead the way, making it four wins on the spin by beating Frosinone 2-0 at San Siro before the international break.

Federico Dimarco with an outrageous lob from inside his own half, that’s well worth seeking out if you haven’t seen it, before Hakan Çalhanoğlu converted a penalty.

That made it ten wins out of 12 for Simone Inzaghi’s side, their sole defeat against to Sassuolo, with their only other dropped points coming in a chaotic 2-2 draw with Bologna, also at San Siro.

Most would agree that I Nerazzurri are firm favourites to capture a 20th Scudetto come May, although Inter’s credentials will certainly be tested this week, also traveling to Naples next Sunday night.

Right now though, fierce foes Juventus are their biggest title rivals, kicking off in second, knowing a victory would see them leapfrog the leaders to the summit.

La Vecchia Signora come into this one following five successive victories, with goals from Bremer and then Daniele Rugani downing Cagliari a fortnight ago.

Before Gli Isolani scored in vain in that 2-1 defeat, Massimiliano Allegri’s team had gone more than 615 minutes, that’s over ten hours, without conceding, beating Lecce, A.C. Milan, Hellas Verona and Fiorentina all 1-0.

With no European football, I Bianconeri are solely focussed on reclaiming the Scudetto, having won an unprecedented nine successive titles, before their monopoly came to an end three seasons ago.

If you’re tuning into this one hoping for a goal-fest, well don’t, largely because Juventus are involved; last season’s quartet of Derby d’Italia fixtures produced a measly six goals.

So, who will take a gigantic step towards this season’s Scudetto with victory in Turin?

Juventus team news

Massimiliano Allegri is without Mattia De Sciglio, Danilo, Fabio Miretti and Tim Weah, all of whom are injured, while Paul Pogba and Nicolò Fagioli are banned.

In Weah’s absence, Andrea Cambiaso has been filling-in at right-wing-back, although there will still be USMNT interest, with Weston McKennie in midfield.

In attack, Dušan Vlahović has only started once since 23 September, with Moise Kean once again chosen as Federico Chiesa’s partner.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Szczęsny; Gatti, Bremer, Rugani; Cambiaso, McKennie, Rabiot, Locatelli, Kostić; Chiesa, Kean.

Internazionale team news

Star centre-back Alessandro Bastoni is out injured, a big blow, while Juan Cuadrado will not face his former club, as he’s also sidelined.

So, Stefan de Vrij will likely come into the back-line, with Benjamin Pavard also unavailable.

In attack, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez have instantaneously formed a formidable partnership, scoring five and 14 goals respectively, so will they fire Inter to a massive victory?

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Darmian, de Vrij, Acerbi; Dumfries, Çalhanoğlu, Mkhitaryan, Barella, Dimarco; Thuram, Martínez.
