There’s plenty of royalty in the day’s opener given it’s the Royal Challengers v the Royals.
Then, the afternoon clash will provide us with somewhat of a rarity so far in this year’s Indian Premier League - me tipping a Chennai victory!
As you may well know if you read my tournament preview, I didn’t really rate Chennai. I’m still not convinced, though accept they have started extremely well.
One thing for sure, I certainly rate them higher than their tomorrow afternoon opponents, Kolkata.
I suggested them as the likeliest candidate for this year’s wooden spoon before a ball was bowled, and they’ve got every chance of finishing there. That theory was strengthened on Thursday when they lost to current bottom side Delhi Capitals, a team who had lost their opening five games.
Royal Challengers Bangalore v Rajasthan Royals, M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore (11am)
Bangalore have had a very ‘Bangalore-y’ start to the competition. They’ve won three and lost three.
But their middling campaign leaves them in a healthy state at present in a competition where it doesn’t seem as if there is one that stands out from the crowd.
I’m going to side with RCB to win this one, at 19/20 with SpreadEx.
The victory over Punjab on Thursday showed some really good signs. Their big players - Virat Kohli (59), Faf du Plessis (84), Mohammad Siraj (four wickets) and Wanindu Hasaranga (two wickets) all stood up.
If they can continue to do so, they could be increasingly dangerous as this competition wears on.
I absolutely adore Sri Lanka leg-spinner Hasaranga, who is no mug with the bat either. If I was a franchise team selector, he would be one of the first names on my team sheet.
He has struck in each of his three games this campaign, taking one wicket in each of the first two and 2-39 on Thursday against Punjab.
Ladbrokes and bet365 have a couple of prices of interest on Hasaranga success.
They are offering 11/8 on him to take over 1.5 wickets in the match.
They have also priced him at 3/1 to be Bangalore’s top wicket-taker in this match.
I wonder whether, with short boundaries at this venue, Rajasthan batters will be a bit more adventurous against him and open up some wicket-taking chances. Let’s hope so.
Kolkata Knight Riders v Chennai Super Kings, Eden Gardens, Kolkata (3pm)
Betfred and a few other bookmakers are offering 4/5 on a Chennai victory at the iconic Eden Gardens, and I can’t really see beyond them.
I would also be taking the 4/5 available with bet365 on Chennai to have the highest six-over powerplay score in the match.
Albeit odds on, I think that’s a decent price when you consider both CSK openers, Devon Conway (258) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (235) are in tournament’s top six run-scorers so far. They would have to do the bulk of the work in the first six overs.
It’s been a bit all or nothing so far for Kolkata batter Venkatesh Iyer, with scores of 83 and 104 punctuated with ones of 3, 10 and 0.
But he’s a very dangerous customer at number three in their order, and he already secured us a winning bet with that 104 earlier this week.
So why not go again with bet365′s 4/1 on him to KKR’s top bat in this match?
Just to finish. If you want the result double, SportingIndex are offering 2.52/1 on Bangalore and Chennai.
