Indian Premier League: Sunday Double Header Previews & Betting Tips

Another blockbuster day of IPL action sees my pre-tournament title tip Mumbai in action alongside current pacesetters.

Mumbai can ill-afford to slip up if they are to be serious challengers

Sunday’s starter for 10 is a clash between slow starting Mumbai and middling Kolkata Knight Riders in what is a crucial game for our pre-tournament title tips Mumbai.

They clearly haven’t started the way I would have hoped, winning only one from three. But that win came last time out.

Then, your slap-up Sunday dinner is a repeat of last year’s final. At the time of writing, champions Gujarat are third in the table and Rajasthan top.

I do think that Mumbai will win this one. I think their results don’t match the talent at their disposal, and I would be taking the 10/11 on offer with Betfair on them to win this one against the Knight Riders, who have made a better but not convincing start.

Last time out in Mumbai’s win over Delhi on Tuesday, captain Rohit Sharma scored 65 at the top of the order - his first half-century since 2021.

A bit like his team, he is far better than recent form. And, as so often happens, you wait ages for one and then two come along at once.

With that in mind, I would be keen to take the boosted 7/2 from Betfair on the India star to be Mumbai’s top run-scorer in this fixture.

Venkatesh Iyer is 4/1 with bet365 to be Kolkata’s top batter in the match. I think that’s too big on a player who bats at number three and is coming off the back of an 83 a couple of games ago. Not only that, he did it against one of the best bowling attacks around in Gujarat Titans.

The destructive left-hander has the capability to settle this market pretty quickly if he gets going. So I’d be siding with the India international here.

Gujarat Titans v Rajasthan Royals, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad (3pm UK)

I will be honest with you, I’m struggling to choose a winner here and will sit on the fence. It is one of those fixtures to look for value elsewhere and maybe wait until in-play to get involved with the result market.

Gujarat opener Shubman Gill has had a fruitful start to the tournament without being outstanding; 183 runs, two fifties in four innings.

He is his side’s leading run-scorer and is very much in the mix for the tournament’s top scorer as well, something suggested in our tournament preview before a ball was bowled.

I would be taking a couple of boosted prices on his success in this match. The first 11/4 Paddy Power have on him to be Gujarat’s top batter in the match and the second is the 3/1 Ladbrokes are offering for him to score a third fifty of the competition.
