Ballymore Novices Hurdle (1.20pm, Wednesday)
The Ballymore Novices Hurdle kicks off proceedings for Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival, also known as Ladies Day.
The Even money favourite is Henry de Bromhead’s Bob Olinger (Evens with bet365*) who was last seen winning a Grade 1 novices hurdle race easily by six lengths in January.
Ed Quigley told the Freebets.com Cheltenham Preview panel that he is “tentatively with Bob Olinger” and that “the manner in which he thumped Blue Lord at Navan was really, really exciting”.
Melissa Jones has been really impressed with the highly progressive Gaillard Du Mesnil (11/4 with Betfair). She said “Although he’s a bit of a keen racer I think he’s got that natural engine and he has to be my selection here”
Peter Scudamore throws in Nicky Martin’s Bear Ghylls (10/1 with 888sport) as an alternative outsider to the top 3 in the betting. He said “This horse’s form is very good and it’s won every time it’s been sent to the racecourse.”
