Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants Tips and Predictions

Chennai Super Kings to win and Mustafizur top wicket-taker for CSK

The return to Chennai should be a huge boost to the Super Kings, who have a formidable home record.

They have a perfect record of three wins out of three at Chepauk so far this season, taking the overall record to 48 wins and 18 defeats in 67 matches, and that is because the ground plays to their strengths and generally suits the canny, slower bowlers.

It is somewhat against the grain so far that the top three wicket-takers for CSK so far this season have been seamers, with Ravi Jadeja struggling for wickets and Moeen Ali a bit-part player, but Mustafizur’s unique blend of cutters, slower balls, seam-up deliveries and potent death bowling mean he is way ahead with 11 wickets in just six matches.

CSK right head into the game as favourites, but ‘The Fizz’ has been a revelation so far this campaign with two wickets more than Matheesha Pathirana and five ahead of Tushar Deshpande. He should get plenty of purchase in Chennai and be a big weapon for the hosts.

IPL 2024 - CSK vs LSG

KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock to score 75+ runs combined

Ladbrokes have boosted a pretty attractive offering ahead of the game, with the price for Rahul and de Kock to score a combined total of 75 runs in the game boosted to 2/1 from 6/4.

Rahul is prolific in the IPL and already has two half-centuries this year. That includes the 83 he scored in the win over CSK last week and he will be full of confidence going into the game, while his method of playing for LSG enables him to take minimal risk while still scoring big.

De Kock hasn’t had things his way of late but has found form so far for LSG, with three half-centuries in seven innings for a total of 228 runs at 32.57. The two openers put on 134 for the first wicket in the win last week and while they might not have it all their own way this time round, one of them will fancy a significant score and eking out over 75 runs between them.

IPL 2024 - CSK vs LSG

Gaikwad & Rahane to score 20+ runs each, Bishnoi & Pathirana to take 1+ wicket each

Ruturaj Gaikwad has quietly been a revelation since assuming the captaincy from MS Dhoni just before the start of the season.

He might not have done anything extraordinary - 241 runs at 40.17 and a strike-rate of 130.27 is good without being outstanding - but after the disaster of Ravi Jadeja’s captaincy spell, he has shown that it is possible to lead the team from Dhoni’s shadow while maintaining his own form and place in the team.

His last four scores have been 26, 67*, 69 and 17 so should be in decent enough nick to get up to that 20 mark again, while Ajinkya Rahane’s reinvention as a T20 batter continues. He has shaken off a calf niggle and should be fit to play, and 160 runs at 26.67 don’t paint the whole picture of a man in pretty decent form and playing a crucial role in the CSK line-up.

Pathirana has been brilliant since coming into the side, displaying high speeds in picking up nine wickets in just four matches - he took 1-29 against LSG last week - so should have plenty of opportunities to get in on the act again, while Ravi Bishnoi has picked up at least one wicket in three of the last four matches he has played.
