Early Career

Antoine Griezmann represented local side UF Mâcon in France but was often overlooked by big clubs due to his diminutive size and stature.

Across the border in Spain, Real Sociedad were alerted to his talents and decided to offer him a youth team contract and eventually promoted him to the first team during the 2009/10 season.

Club Career

Real Sociedad

Griezmann enjoyed an instant impact at Sociedad and after making his debut in September 2009; he opened his account for the club less than a month later. He became a regular in the Sociedad side during that season and his performances helped get them promoted to La Liga.

In La Liga, Griezmann was often the shining light in an inconsistent side and in the following four full seasons, he managed 46 goals in 162 games across all competitions. His form prompted Atletico Madrid to pay £25 million for his services in the summer of 2014.

Atletico Madrid

Griezmann’s level upped dramatically upon arriving at Atletico and he found instant success under Diego Simeone. Atletico won the Spanish Super Cup in 2014 and Griezmann netted 25 goals in 53 appearances in his first full season with the club.

He went on to continue to register superb numbers for Atletico as they finished as the Champions League runners up in 2016 and consistently challenged for domestic honours against Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain. In his last 4 seasons with the club, Griezmann scored 108 goals in 204 games in all competitions, in which Atletico also won the Europa League (2017-18) and the UEFA Super Cup (2018).

Griezmann’s performances had long been attracting Europe’s elite and the Frenchman joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 for a reported €100 million.

International Career

Antoine Griezmann made his international debut for France in February 2014 and he has been a staple in the squad ever since. He was selected for the 2014 World Cup but made his biggest impact at Euro 2016, scoring 6 goals in the competition as the hosts ultimately fell short. He was influential once more at the 2018 World Cup as Les Blues lifted the trophy and Griezmann finished the tournament with 3 goals to his name. He has made 78 appearances for France, scoring 30 goals.
